When to Use Beard Oil

When it comes to beard care, it’s well-known that beard oil is one of the most important products you can use, but deciding when to use it can be confusing, especially for new beard growers.

Now, the short answer is: It’s recommended to start using it as soon as your facial hair starts growing in. But sometimes there’s more to consider, so in this article, we will answer the timing question, as well as the common question of: How often should you apply it, and eventually help you figure out whether or not you even need to use beard oil.

So first, let’s start with the basics:

Do You Really Need Beard Oil?

This is a difficult question to answer, as each individual’s beard is different. As we mentioned at the opening of this post, beard oil is considered to be one of the most important products in your beard care routine. Nevertheless, Some men find that they can get away with using nothing more than water to wash their beard, or a dedicated beard shampoo at best, while others find that even the highest quality of beard oils don’t help with their itchiness or dryness.

The reason beard oil is such an important part of a beard care routine is that it can help to condition and soften your beard, as well as nourish the skin underneath. It can also help to reduce itchiness and flakes and promote healthy growth. If you’re finding that your beard is feeling a bit dry or rough, or you’re starting to experience some itchiness, it’s worth trying out a beard oil.

Although, as you can tell, we strongly recommend using it, the best way to find out if your beard needs regular oil use, is to experiment a bit for yourself and see how your beard responds. Start by using it once a day for a week, and then increase the frequency if you find that your beard is benefiting from it. If you start to notice any negative effects – such as an increase in itchiness – then it’s best to stop using that specific oil and try a different product, since you may be sensitive to one or more ingredients.

So When Should You Start Using Beard Oil?

The answer to this question is rather simple: as soon as you start growing a beard! It’s a common mistake to think that beard oil is necessary only when your beard starts to have some length, but the truth is once those first few hairs start poking through your skin, it’s time to start using as least some form of beard care, and oil is one of the best choices for that.

By the way, there isn’t a minimum age for using beard oil, as it all depends on when you start growing facial hair. Now, we’re not saying you need to go out and buy the most expensive bottle of oil available; but, if you’re serious about your beard, you should at least get a decent quality oil and start using it from the very beginning. Trust our unnecessary itchy experience – Use high-quality beard oil to help you feel more comfortable during the early stages of your facial hair development. This way, you can help to condition and soften your beard from the very beginning. Trust us – your future self will thank you for it!

How Often Should I Apply Beard Oil?

This is a question with no definitive answer, as it depends on several factors such as the length and thickness of your beard, the climate you live in, and how dry your skin is.

As a general rule of thumb, we recommend applying beard oil twice a day – in the morning after you’ve washed your face – and then again at night before you go to bed and after you’ve showered, or washed your face and beard again. If you find that your beard is starting to feel a bit greasy during the day, you can always reduce the amount of oil you’re using, or apply it less frequently.

Daily use of just a few drops of beard oil is highly recommended because this will help to keep your beard and skin healthy, hydrated, and looking at their best.

Should I Use Beard Oil on a Short Beard?

Yes! Beard oil is not reserved for long-bearded guys only. Even if your beard is just a few inches long, it’s still important to use some form of beard care. As we mentioned earlier, the sooner you start using beard oil, the better.

Not only will it help with the itchiness that’s common in the early stages of beard growth, but it will also make your beard look and feel healthier. If you don’t want your beard to appear too greasy or If you’re worried about looking like you’re trying too hard, don’t be – a little bit of oil goes a long way for most beards, and if applied properly, it shouldn’t leave yours looking or feeling too oily.

At What Length of Beard Should I Start Using Beard Oil?

Again, the answer to this question is simple: as soon as you start growing a beard! We know we’ve said it already, but it bears repeating – the sooner you start using beard oil, the better. In the early stages of beard growth, your beard will probably be itchy and rough and beard oil can relieve those feelings by leaving your facial hair more smooth right from the very beginning. Trust us, your future self will thank you for starting to use beard oil early on.

And what did we write this post for, if not to praise and emphasize the importance of beard oil usage as soon as you decide to nurture one?

We hope you found this article helpful, and that you now have a clear understanding of when to use beard oil (just a hint: at the very beginning! lol)

If you have any questions, or if there’s anything we missed, please let us know! And remember – the best way to find out what works for you is to experiment a bit and see what gives you the best results. Happy beard-growing!

After Years of shaving every day, in 2019 I decided to grow my beard - much to my wife's dismay.
At first it was itchy, then it started to grow wild. So my wife bought me beard care products and decided that if I'm going to do it, I should do it right.
Since then I have learned a lot about how to grow and nurture a healthy, good-looking beard, experimented with many products, and decided to start a blog to share what I've learned.
